Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
ADMITTANCE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL HALLS: No high school student is allowed in the middle school hall unless that student has an official hall pass. No high school student is to go into the break area used by the middle school for any purpose unless a pass has been secured.
ARRIVAL-DISMISSAL PROCEDURES: Safety is a large priority at Emanuel County Institute. Procedures are in place to maximize safety measures during arrival and dismissal periods for students. Buses arrive via our bus lane on Church Street beginning at 7:15 a.m. (Church Street is closed to all traffic during AM/PM dismissal times). Car riders are dropped off and picked up in the front of the school only. School personnel have designated duty areas to provide supervision and promote safety. Parents/Guardians should use the North College Street entrance to the school during arrival and dismissal times. North College Street is limited to one-way traffic during dismissal and arrival times. We use two-lane traffic to speed up the dismissal of students, if this becomes a safety issue we will need to revert to one lane. Student drivers should also use North College Street and park in designated parking areas.
All students should report to their 1st block class upon arrival to school. We ask that students enter into the building in the double doors near the band room. They will then have the opportunity to obtain a free grab-and-go breakfast. Students located in unauthorized areas without the permission of the ECI administration are subject to disciplinary action.
Buses will arrive at Emanuel County Institute for dismissal at approximately 3:02 p.m. Buses will enter the bus lane on Church Street via North College Street and bus riders will be called to dismiss when all buses are in place. Parents/Guardians picking up students should wait in front of the school and wait until car riders/walkers are dismissed. Parents/Guardians should use the North College Street entrance during dismissal and follow all safety requests to ensure orderly arrival/dismissal each day. Early dismissal is not allowed after 2:15 each day. Please plan to arrive prior to 2:15 if you need to check our child out for appointments.
Students in grades 6-8 who ride buses will be dismissed at approximately 3:02 p.m. each day. Two teachers from each grade are to accompany the students to the buses and supervise them as they load. Students who do not ride a bus (riders & walkers) will be dismissed at approximately 3:10 p.m.
CHANGING CLASSES AND MOVING IN THE HALLS: Students are not to run in the halls, classrooms, buses, or the cafeteria. Students should walk on the right side of the corridors to facilitate movement. Students who “horseplay,” make excessive noise, loiter in the halls during change of classes, at break, or lunch are subject to office referrals. Any student in the hall during class hours must carry a student pass from a teacher or member of the administration or be considered “Out of Class without Permission.”
PARKING LOT: Students who drive a motor vehicle on campus must park in student-designated areas only. Students must register their vehicle in the front office. The driver must also present proof of insurance and license verification. Students must purchase a parking decal for $20 for the school year and will be assigned a parking spot number. Students are not to park in areas reserved for faculty/staff parking and/or visitor parking nor grass areas. If a parking pass is lost or stolen, a new pass must be purchased.
Student’s found in violation of driving/parking privileges will be issued punishment as outlined below:
1st Offense – Warning and Parent Contact
2nd Offense – In School Suspension and Parent Contact
3rd Offense – Parking Permit Revoked with Loss of Privilege to Park on Campus
Students are reminded that extreme caution must be taken at all times when driving on campus. Speeding and reckless driving will be considered a police matter and tag numbers will be reported to the School Resource Officer and/or local authorities. The ECI Administration reserves the right to search all vehicles driven and parked on school campus.
Parking and driving rules are intended for the protection of students’ property and safety—violations of these rules will result in the loss of student parking privileges. Policies specified in the Code of Conduct.
STUDENT DRIVERS: Students are not to loiter in the parking lots at any time. Students are not permitted to sit in, on, around, or about vehicles in school parking lots. When arriving at school in the morning, students are to leave their vehicles immediately and are not to return to their cars during the school day without special administrator permission or unless leaving school. It is also recommended that students keep their vehicles locked. The school is not responsible for valuables taken from unlocked vehicles.
