HONORS CLASSES

For students to be considered for an honors class at the beginning of their 9th grade year he/she must meet the following criteria:

  • 90 or higher in academic courses
  • Score Distinguished or Proficient on End of Grade state assessments
  • Perform at the Hi or HiAvg threshold on MAP
  • Teacher Recommendation

Students currently enrolled in an honors class must meet the following criteria to continue eligibility:

  • 85 or higher in academic courses
  • Score Distinguished or Proficient on End of Course state assessments
  • Perform at the Hi or HiAvg threshold on MAP
  • Teacher Recommendation

Please understand that our honors courses will have a faster pacing and more rigorous coursework.  It will be imperative for your child to match this with his/her work ethic and dedication to the classes in which he/she is enrolled.  In order to remain eligible for the honors program, students must maintain an 85 or higher in each honors course.  Grades are evaluated each semester and students will become ineligible when their semester averages fall below the 85 mark.  It is important to note that honors courses also come with a heavier weight on your student’s GPA.  While a regular course counts 1 point, honors classes count 1.5 towards the overall grade point average.
